If you are in need of a session guitarist then please view the show reel on the right. For advice on custom-built guitar bodies, please talk to Robert Young at TKR Guitars, design by Sweeney Todd. Or read more about his custom guitars. You may be looking to build your own guitar as a project and require a guitar body that has the right dimensions that match your template specifications? The main advantage of building your own guitar bodies whether its a strat style or ibanez jem7v is that you have total control of every aspect of the design from start to finish. This means that you can choose the shape of the guitar body, dimensions, timber, colour and texture. It could be that you want a replacement guitar body for an existing guitar? If so you have come to the right place as we can provide match replacements for a vast range of guitar bodies. There are many styles of guitar body that are truly iconic. Who can forget the paisley fender stratocaster Hendrix famously set fire to or the floral Jem guitar body Steve Vai hit the stage with! I personaly prefur the ibanez jem7v in white myself. The js1000 by Joe Satriani is also one of my personal favourites along with the burnt transparent blue guitar body. There are many things to take into consideration when choosing the right guitar bodies. What should the guitar body be made of? Does it support a tremolo or fixed bridge? Should the guitar body be pre routed? Is the neck join suitable for bolt on or glue in? These are some of the questions you should ask yourself before purchasing your guitar body. We also provide a custom design and build service if you want an individual touch to your guitar body. How does the guitar body affect the sound of my guitar? The tone, sustain and character of your guitar can dramatically vary depending on the type of guitar body you use! A solid maple guitar body would normally give you a very bright and sharp tone. A solid mahogany guitar body can result in a warm deep rounded tone. A very popular guitar body design makes use of both of these timbers which is most commonly found on the Gibson Les Paul. The typical Les Paul has a mahogany guitar body with a maple cap. The result is a deep rich tone from the mahogany combined with a bright sharp attack from the guitar body maple cap. The maple cap for your guitar body can be book matched so it is cosmetically pleasing. There are many types of maple cap grades and styles for your guitar body which can vary significantly in price and availability due to high demand. A quilted maple top guitar body is a particular favourite of mine and its nice to know that no other guitar body looks the same! Alder, poplar and ash are common types of guitar body wood typically used on bolt on neck style guitars (fender Stratocasters) These are usually made from 2 or 3 pieces glued together to form the guitar body. You might notice that when buying a natural coloured guitar body as opposed to a solid colour guitar body, the price tends to be higher. This is because the guitar body timbre has to be better quality for cosmetic reasons (nothing to hide!) The les Paul guitar body has a glued in neck. Having a glued in neck on the guitar body can help increase sustain of the guitar, allowing notes to ring out longer. The reason for this is that when a string is plucked, energy is transmitted from the string, through the bridge, into the guitar body, up the neck, into the nut and back to the string. If the guitar body is poorly constructed or the grain in the timbre of the guitar body is not uniform, energy is lost and the sustain decreases. That is the basic science for most styles of guitar body, however! Some of the most amazing tones I have ever heard have come from bolt on neck guitars with a low spec guitar body that seem to tick the box for all the wrong reasons. Some argue that the inconsistencies in the guitar body are primarily responsible for the character of the sound. |
