About Guitar Body

With a guitar body, why do some types of the same wood cost so much more?

Aside from exotic and rare timbres, you can choose to purchase wood for your guitar body that has been matured for longer. As wood ages, it loses moisture, the grain tightens and the resulting wood is stronger with better sustain capability. This process takes time and space which equals higher cost. There are many aspects regarding your ideal guitar body which I aim to cover in more detail in my blog section which will be regularly updated. I have been asked to cover more information on other parts of the guitar aside from just the guitar body. If I decide to, it will be covered on a separate website as i do not want to dilute the relevance on this site. Some styles of guitar body are made from synthetic materials such as plastic, glass and carbon. Although the production can be faster and cheaper, many consider this tyupe of guitar body unnatural and clinical in tone. Whether or not this is down to nostalgia is something that we won’t have an answer any time soon. If you haven’t already realised by now, the guitar body is not simple!

The guitar body you choose will play a huge part of the sound you ideally want and that’s why we are here!

One thought to bear in mind is that a good quality guitar body will hold its value and may even appreciate in the future as limited wood resources force demand leading to higher prices. Insulation within the guitar body is often an understated feature when it comes to reducing unwanted noise in your signal chain. One option is to have the guitar body cavities entirely insulated with copper. Combining this with copper insulated pick guard, earth loop removal (a standard problem in many high price guitars) and a set of good pickups will often result in an amazing sounding guitar body at a fraction of the price it would cost to buy new!
