So why choose custom guitars over a mass produced guitar off the shelf?

Custom built guitars are usually made with better wood choice and more care and attention can be made towards the specific set up of the guitar that is requested from the musician. Things like balance, weight and action are the obvious factors but what about the finer points. For instance, you may want a modern strat neck with vintage frets glued in to a 1 piece mahogany body along with AAA maple top loaded with 1 single original vintage Dimarzio FS-1 pickup in the middle position. I can tell you know, you’re going to have a hard time finding one of those in your local guitar shop!

Another consideration to take when it comes to custom guitars is the materials used. If you opt for say a three piece Alder body with a solid colour then it’s going to come out cheaper than a 1 piece mahogany body with a book match AAA quilt maple top.

What sort of hardware are you going to have? Maybe an ashtray style Tele Bridge? A PRS style wrap around? Or maybe you would prefer a floating tremolo like a Floyd rose. Whichever you decide on, the impact on the final cost can vary quite a lot!
